This is the Read-Me file for "de.zip". The new German (base) dictionary from May 1998 is now called "de.dic", as was the first version dating back to early 1997 (or so). Its successors were "de3.dic" and "de2.dic". We decided to switch back to the old name because this version is a new start, from which update possibilities will be provided. "de.zip" contains many files. One is the base dictionary, called "de.dic". The file "de.dic" is accompanied by two other files, namely "remove.dic" and "addon.dic", which contain words that are to be removed from "de.dic" (discovered errors) or to be added to "de.dic" (missing words) respectively. The base directory of these three files is the sub-directory "de" of WinEdt's "dict" directory. With "de.dic" (also inside "de.zip") come various additional dictionaries. All are grouped together in the sub-directory "additional" of the directory "de". Some of the additional dictionaries do not contain any words, they are just there to be filled in the future. The directory structure is as follows: ($WINEDT-DIR$ is the directory where WinEdt is installed) $WINEDT-DIR$/dict/de/main/de.dic $WINEDT-DIR$/dict/de/main/addon.dic $WINEDT-DIR$/dict/de/main/remove.dic $WINEDT-DIR$/dict/de/additional/abbreviations.dic $WINEDT-DIR$/dict/de/additional/astronomy.dic $WINEDT-DIR$/dict/de/additional/biology.dic $WINEDT-DIR$/dict/de/additional/chemistry.dic $WINEDT-DIR$/dict/de/additional/computer+electronics.dic $WINEDT-DIR$/dict/de/additional/economics.dic $WINEDT-DIR$/dict/de/additional/forenames.dic $WINEDT-DIR$/dict/de/additional/geography.dic $WINEDT-DIR$/dict/de/additional/geology.dic $WINEDT-DIR$/dict/de/additional/informatics.dic $WINEDT-DIR$/dict/de/additional/law.dic $WINEDT-DIR$/dict/de/additional/main.dic $WINEDT-DIR$/dict/de/additional/marks.dic $WINEDT-DIR$/dict/de/additional/mathematics.dic $WINEDT-DIR$/dict/de/additional/medicine.dic $WINEDT-DIR$/dict/de/additional/names.dic $WINEDT-DIR$/dict/de/additional/organizations.dic $WINEDT-DIR$/dict/de/additional/physics.dic $WINEDT-DIR$/dict/de/additional/unsorted.dic $WINEDT-DIR$/dict/international/geography.dic $WINEDT-DIR$/dict/international/latin.dic $WINEDT-DIR$/dict/international/marks.dic At the moment the German dictionary is the only one which differentiates between a base dictionary and additional dictionaries. We hope that this may change in the long term. Compilers of new dictionaries should consider to follow the way we show here. -- Author of this file: Colin Marquardt Ortsstrasse 28 D-07426 Unterschoebling GERMANY If you want to contact me please do *not* use my old e-mail address from earlier dictionary documentations. ------------------------ |colin.marquardt@gmx.de| ------------------------ or ------------------------- |colin.marquardt@gmx.net| ------------------------- will be my valid e-mail address in the foreseeable future.
